LISA FONG

Deputy Director-General, New Zealand National Cyber Security Centre

Lisa Fong is the New Zealand Government Communications Security Bureau’s Deputy Director-General Cyber Security. She leads the GCSB’s National Cyber Security Centre. The NCSC works to strengthen New Zealand’s cyber security resilience across the whole economy. This includes ongoing work to raise cyber security resilience across government and critical infrastructure organisations, to ensure the data and services that New Zealand relies on are protected against all hazards and risks. Most recently, the NCSC was awarded the Public Service Commission’s Service Excellence Award and Prime Minister’s Award for its Malware Free Networks threat disruption service, delivered through industry partners.

The NCSC hosts the Government Chief Information Security Officer function and, as Deputy GCISO, Lisa provides system stewardship of public service information security. With the transfer of CERT NZ in August 2023, the NCSC is responsible for providing cyber security advice and support for organisations and members of the public who have been victims of malicious cyber activity, and for delivering cyber security uplift in the Pacific. Fong has a BA/LLB (Hons) from the University of Auckland and a Master of Laws from New York University. In her spare time, she reports to her two young daughters.
